Reporters function less as fact finders than as story-tellers. They exhibit social cues, peddle hate porn, and spell out the expected responses from their audience. If someone does not display the correct reaction, the media attacks. Rather than confronting power, journalists reinforce power and hunt down and punish dissenters from the established Narrative.
The actual verdict did not need to wait on the grand jury and was apparent that day as it was published in newspapers and aired on television across the country. This verdict has little to do with the truth and everything to do with reinforcing a legend. Precious reason withers against the hot winds of identity.
In January of 2013, the fates seated me next to a heavyset, bearded man on a chairlift. I started up small talk . . . I never would have imagined that this conversation, which began so innocuously, would transform into a fixation of a erstwhile neoconservative operative, capture the imagination of many in the national media, launch a local with hunt, and damage the reputation of a place I call home—Whitefish, Montana.
But many White Americans don’t like to accept Blacks for who they are. They desperately cling to notions inculcated into them through years of public education and cable television. These notions portray Blacks as peace-loving, wise, and more than capable of succeeding in our society—if it just wasn’t for those White bigots standing in their way.
Anonymous online gaming (and Internet commenting, for that matter) has been a last redoubt, a last outlet for masculine rage, tribalism, simulated violence, and rough talk in a world run by bureaucrats, bent-over men, finger-wagging mommies, and double-talking harpy whores. And now, they aren’t going to let them run anymore. There’s nowhere else for these guys to go. What’s next?
Dugin is one of the world’s most renowned critics of the American cult of Liberal democracy, and his work published in English in 2012, The Fourth Philosophical Theory, sets out to examine the problem of the failed (or at least vulnerable) ideologies of the 20th century, extending from Communism and Fascism to what has become the preferred American political doctrine of Liberal materialism based on universal equality. Dugin views Liberal democracy as the ideological idol of the last century that is still standing and, given the extent of American power and influence, still flourishing on this continent and among American vassal states in Western Europe. Dugin famously, or notoriously, calls for a “fourth way,” just as Heidegger in the midst of the Cold War proposed a “third way” and, from the 1930s on, spoke of “another beginning” that would lead toward a new “openness to Being.” In these cases, these men sought alternatives to the materialist and consumerist ethos of late modernity—and to the ideology of universal political sameness that has accompanied it.
The contemporary court jester comforts the comfortable, mocks the powerless, and reinforces the System that grants him privilege. He’s not really a court jester, but a court’s jester. And the three most renowned jesters in the larger parody we call a country are Steven Colbert, John Oliver, and Jon Stewart Leibowtiz.
