The Political Ideas of Anders Behring Breivik

What kind of "ultra-nationalist" murders the children of his own people? The answer is one who is truly deranged.  

That said, unlike Jared Loughner, whose various writings on politics and economics were non-sensical and seemingly based on free-association, Anders Behring Breivik's work (if this actually is Anders Breivik's work) is rational and argued; he is clearly influenced by many neoconservative authors, but also many from the non-aligned Right.  

I usually cringe at the labeling of mass murderers as "left" or "right"--Loughner was hardly a Tea Party Republican, as media liberals intimated, nor was he a "radical leftist," as many right-wingers counter-charged. Breivik, on the other hand, is clearly a conservative of some kind.

We still aren't sure whether Breivik is the man who perpetrated Friday's bloddy actions; and we still aren't sure of the authenticity of the online "manifesto" [PDF] (his alleged Facebook page seems extremely fishy...). But we should most definitely study Breivik's "European Declaration of Independence." Kevin MacDonald had made excellent start.

A quite clear picture of Anders Behring Breivik emerges from this collection of his online posts. I thought the following quotes were reasonably representative; they are edited slightly for English usage.

These snippets portray a Geert Wilders-type of cultural conservative, very opposed to ethnocentrism as a strategy, very positive about the Vienna School, pro-Israel, and also very hostile toward Muslims. Breivik sees Islam as eventually taking over Europe via differential fertility if nothing is done, noting historical data on other areas (e.g., Turkey, Lebanon). He has a 1100-page book, titled 2083: A European Declaration of Independence, suggesting his actions were intended to call attention to himself as a way of publicizing the book and maximizing its impact. In general, however, it must be said that he is a serious political thinker with a great many insights and some good practical ideas on strategy (e.g., developing culturally conservative media, developing youth organizations that will confront the Marxist street thugs, gaining control of NGOs). It could well be that his silence on Jewish hostility toward Europe and the West and his rejection of ethnocentrism are motivated by his strategic sense.

Note his hostility toward the Frankfurt School which he identifies with cultural Marxism, but never mentions the anti-European, anti-Christian attitudes that pervade Jewish elites in the West—as noted in Paul Gottfried’s recent vdare article and repeatedly emphasized here. He notes the failure of “ethnocentric strategies”  but ignores the role of Jewish intellectual elites  in pathologizing expressions of ethnocentrism by Europeans since WWII (particularly the Frankfurt School) and in combating the scientific basis of the legitimacy of racial/ethnic interests (Boasian anthropology). He is also highly critical of the media (without noting that the  Norwegian media is controlled by a Swedish/Jewish family). In my experience, racially conscious Scandinavians are quite aware of Jewish media control. Again, these may be tactical moves, although I rather doubt it.

In any case, he is certainly right in characterizing multiculturalism as an ideology of hate. Note particularly his anger at the action of the Labour Party in England in opening the gates of immigration in order “to humiliate the right-wing opponents of immigration.” As he notes in several places, multiculturalism is hatred of Europeans and their culture masked by humanism.

It remains to be seen what the long term effect of his actions will be. There is certainly great revulsion at the murder of young people. However, I suppose it is possible that  in the long run European elites will understand that the glorious multicultural future will not be attained without a great deal of bloodletting and realize they will have to change their ways. Indeed, one of his insights is that in the long run “the multi-cultural neocolonial regimes will either have imploded or have become very Stalinist.” I agree.

Anders Behring Breivik:

50 years of efforts by the ethnocentric organizations / movements (from 1960-2009) have failed completely. We know this and further focus, illumination of these strategies will only be counter-productive and potentially very damaging to the current Norwegian and European cultural conservative movement.

I got the impression that the younger generations in Oslo do not quite manage to see the political context here. They see the racist attack but do not fully understand that this is Jihad (political / cultural attacks). They repay what they perceive as racism with racism.

I have only been politically active for 13 years. I am førstegenerasjonsdhimmi (Generation Y). The Frankfurt School (kulturmarxisme) is a very ambitious unofficial ideology (and quite unknown to most); they have succeeded in most areas (except to smash capitalism, European Christianity and European identity, traditions, culture). The Vienna school is more a defense against this where we often use the Marxists’ own creations against them (sexual liberation, feminism, liberalism, anti-racism, anti-autoriære arguments).

We know by the way all of what happened to the Christians Marxists in Lebanon. Lebanon was once a Christian country (80% in 1911). Four important tasks we have to work on the next twenty years are the following:

4. Initiate a partnership with the conservative forces within the Norwegian Church. I know that the liberal forces within the European anti-Jihad movement (Bruce Bawer, among others, and some other liberals) will have a problem with this but the conservative forces within the church are actually one of our best allies. Our main opponents are not the Jihadists but the facilitators—namely multiculturalists.

A nightmare scenario as I see it is if multiculturalists do an “Ataturk” in Western Europe. The result would be a long and painful death for Europe, as in Lebanon. … A Muslim population can restrain itself under an authoritarian regime to demand Sharia 100 years (or more) in the future as soon as the possibility presents itself. Labour wants mass immigration to engineer multicultural UK, says former Blair and Straw adviser.

Kulturmarxistene managed to bargain crucial popular platforms that secured them victory:

Four weeks of Jihad in Gøteborg, Sweden. European media companies are refusing to report. This case and the Muslim riots in United Kingdom (also categorically ignored by 90% of journalists) could have influenced the Norwegian election. I encourage you to read books that explain the ideology multiculturalism, Frankfurt School and its origin. You can for example start with the book “Defeating Eurabia”.

The main problem in Western Europe is that there is only one accepted alternative, namely PC (PC = cultural Marxism / multiculturalism).

Those who dare to criticize multiculturalism (and supporting cultural conservative views) are now branded as fascists / Nazis / racists. The problem is that the doctrines which form the basis of political correctness will not or can allow alternative ideas and are thus very intolerant.

The question you should ask yourself is, if cultural differences were too great for the Christian Norwegians and Swedes Christians could live together, how can we expect the Norwegians and Somalis can live together peacefully?

One can only wonder how many riots have been in France or other countries that we have never heard of. It is in the process of developing a trend in Western Europe where there is full acceptance that the media can suppressing such cases.

Estimated damage from the July riots in France: 800-1500 burnt-out cars, dozens of buildings burnt out, several people injured (including police officers). Not a single article in the MSM. I called both TV2 and NRK but they thought it was not “news worthy” … Maybe not so strange when 90-95% of all European journalists are in favor of multiculturalism and do not want to contribute to the injury “integration process” by conveying the truth.

This is a very frightening development and document further how the media serves as propaganda machinery to multiculturalism seats.

The orders of “media blackout” have been strictly applied. Le Monde refused to respond, citing “ministerial instructions.” “Yesterday morning, every journalist who came, even for the smallest piece of news, to the firemen, or gendarmes or police, heard the same answer: ‘No fires’. In fact, the truth is quite different. Some of those we questioned admitted under their breath: ‘We cannot say anything about the fires. We have received orders.” In Lyons, the daily Le Progrès reports the same blackout: “Orders not to speak to the press were given to firemen, gendarmes and police.” …

I strongly doubt that your theory is correct. The whole conflict between the BNP and EDL started with a change of leadership in the EDL for a few months ago. They threw out the racist and denounced the BNP. They chose instead SIOE’s ideological basis that is more or less mainstream view on the right side in Western Europe now (Vienna School of Thought).

Nick [Griffin] was very offended and began to demonize the EDL. Although they are now attacking each other, they don’t compete at all as these are two quite different fronts. 90% of all votes in the EDL continued BNP (since this is the only alternative to multikulti in the UK) and 90% of BNP support the EDL regardless of what Nick thinks. …

The tactics of the EDL are now out to “entice” an overreaction from Jihad Youth / Extreme-Marxists—something they have succeeded in several times already. The reaction has been repeatedly shown on the news which has boosted the EDL. This has also benefited BNP. Win-Win for both.

But I must say I am very impressed with how quickly they have grown. This has to do with smart tactical choice by management.

The EDL is an example and a Norwegian version is the only way to prevent Flash / SOS to harass Norwegian cultural conservatives from other fronts. Creating a Norwegian EDL should be No. 3 on the agenda after we have started up a cultural conservative newspaper with national distribution.

The agenda of the Norwegian cultural conservative movement over the next 5 years therefore consists of the following:

Glenn Beck: "I Am a Jew"

Glenn Beck has really outdone himself this time. 

James Edwards:

He delivered the keynote speech at the “Christians United for Israel” summit where he proudly proclaimed that if anyone wants to dehumanize Jews, “then count me a Jew and come for me first.” As if to reiterate his point, he follows up that statement with the exclamation that, “I am a Jew,” even though he certainly is not.

Check out the embarrassing video below, if you can, and pay close attention to the 1:30 – 1:47 mark, the 2:08 – 2:12 mark, and the 2:19 – 2:27 mark. I couldn’t bear to watch it past that point, so if he says anything else that’s equally absurd just note it in the comments section below.

Glenn Beck is so repulsive because he is so disingenuous. If he were just a rank and file Christian Zionist that really believed in all that nonsense, then that’s one thing. But you can tell by simply watching him speak that he is bogus.

Frankly, I think he is somewhat mentally ill.

I don’t know if I’ve ever seen him go five minutes on television without employing his fake crying routine. Watching that act could gag a maggot. He kind of reminds me of someone who would have been selling “miracle” elixirs from a gypsy bandwagon back in the day.

All in all, this video takes groveling to a whole other level. He has no honor and no dignity.

And at the end of the day, what does he have to show for such pandering?

Charges of anti-Semitism.

Anti-Semitism, like all ideologies, tells a story about the world. It’s a story about almost occult Jewish power, about cabals that manipulate world events for their own gain. In classic anti-Semitic narratives, Jews control both the elites and the masses; they’re responsible for the communist revolution and the speculative excesses of capitalism. Their goal is to undermine society so that they can take over. Through the lens of anti-Semitism, social division, runaway inflation, and moral breakdown all make sense because they all have the same cause. Nazi propaganda called Jews drahtzieher—wire-pullers. They constitute a power above and beyond ordinary government authority. “There is a super-government which is allied to no government, which is free from them all, and yet which has its hand in them all,” Henry Ford wrote in The International Jew.

If you know this history, you’ll understand why Glenn Beck’s two-part “exposé” on George Soros, whom Beck calls “The Puppet Master,” was so shocking, even by Beck’s degraded standards. The program, which aired Tuesday and Wednesday, was a symphony of anti-Semitic dog-whistles. Nothing like it has ever been on American television before.

On Thursday morning, the Anti-Defamation League, which exists to combat anti-Semitism, finally condemned Beck. Earlier, I’d criticized the group for its silence, a change that Todd Gutnick, the ADL’s director of media relations, fiercely disputed. “Sometimes the ADL likes to consider what it’s going to say before it says it,” he said. “In this case we wanted to see the totality of what he was doing on the air before speaking out.”

Fox News canceled Glenn Beck’s television show shortly after this incident.

Oh well, you can’t win ‘em all, Glenn!

In the meantime, I am still waiting for Jewish folks to reciprocate and say, “I am White, and the next time you denigrate White people you can come for me first!”

I,too, go back and forth regarding who Beck is exactly. (And I certainly don’t discount the possibility that he is mentally ill and/or a sociopath.)    

Beck is, in many ways, a perfect entertainment icon for our democratic, feminized age, as his schtick (the vaudville term is apt here) alternates between the weepiness of a confessional televangelist and the peppiness of a self-help guru motivating an audience in the banquet hall of a Holiday Inn.  

And we shouldn’t forget that Beck is fundamentally different than his colleagues and competitors. Unlike Rush, Levin, Hannity, and the rest, Beck is remarkably mutable...and, without question, his views on a wide variety of subjects have evolved over the past five years.

Much like a man groping for his glasses in the dark, Beck will read something or talk to someone new over the weekend and then arrive to work on Monday with a whole new Theory of Everything. This tendency leads him to sometimes contradict himself, sometimes speak in platitudes (to put it generously), and sometimes just seem downright dumb.

But it also means that Beck occasionally stumbles onto something dangerous . . .

In the minds of liberals, Beck will always be defined by his 2009 statement on “Fox and Friends” that Barack Obama has a “deep-seated hatred for White people.” Whatever one wants to think about this statement, and our president’s race dilemma, Beck certainly opened up the forbidden discussion of the Establishment’s dispossession of America’s historic majority.       

This statement also started a pattern:

1. Beck gets accused of being a racist himself.
2. A year later, Beck leads a mass rally of his overwhelmingly White viewers and listeners to honor Martin Luther King in the Washington Mall.    

Last fall, Beck, again, came upon something interesting when he claimed that George Soros is “the puppet master” behind most liberal—and even revolutionary and radical leftist—media and political activism. Again, claims like this are overdone, but he was certainly onto something.    

And again:

1. Beck gets accused of anti-Semitism.
2. A year later, Beck leads a mass rally of his overwhelmingly White viewers and listeners to the Hold Land to honor Israel.  

The pattern suggests that when Beck receives a sharp correction across the nose, he learns his lesson well, and then begins groveling in an outlandish and even self-parodic manner.  

He isn’t quite as dumb as he seems.

No, America is not about to default on its debts. And, no, Grandma’s August Social Security check won’t bounce. Nor would a failure to raise the debt ceiling result in a financial breakdown and ensuing Mad Max-style societal collapse. (This latter fact will, no doubt, disappoint many AltRight readers.)     

Democracy seems to function through mass delusion, but few recent issues are obscured by so many misconceptions and misdirections as the current “debate” over raising the debt ceiling.  Below, I’ve listed a few, all of which revolve around the fallacy that the government is about to run out of money.

One might take solace in the fact that Washington’s latest political crisis is more smoke than fire. To the contrary, examining the errors of the current debate brings one closer to an understanding the truly catastrophic nature of the world monetary system.

First, the misconceptions.

1) “If we don’t raise the debt ceiling, America will default on its debts."

No. In terms of income and outflow, Washington isn’t anywhere close to default.

As Karl Denniger points out, “default is only the failure to pay interest or principal on a loan.  Nothing else is a default.”:

The United States takes in about $2 trillion in taxes a year.  The total interest paid last year was about $180 billion, a ridiculously low blended rate, but that's what ZIRP (zero interest rates by The Fed) get you.

Let's assume for a moment that the blended rate was to more than double, to 4%.  That would be about $560 billion in interest a year, including interest on the Social Security and Medicare "trust funds" (which aren't trust funds, but I've been over that before.)

$560 billion is about one quarter of the tax revenues that the government takes in.  So even were interest rates to more than double The United States would not default.

Whatever the case, I predict that when Boehner, Cantor, & Co. finally agree to raising the debt ceiling, they will take credit for “avoiding a default.”

2) “The markets are jittery that America might default.”

No, they’re not.

First off, a default is not the end of the world. There have been many episodes of defaults by individual states throughout American history; shortly after the crises passed, bankers showed up to lend them more money.

And the Federal government is in a far better position. Washington can reproduce—for all practical purposes, without limit—the currency in which its debts and entitlement obligations are denominated. This differentiates it from Greece, which can’t print Euros and thus must plead for bailouts from its paymasters in Brussels and Berlin. As further below discussed, Washington will never default on its explicit debt, nor will it renege on Social Security and Medicare payments, for the simple reason that it always has the capacity to create more money.

True, dollars are created through issuing debt, and since 1917, Congress has had the power to limit debt issuance. However, the “ceiling” has been raised more than 100 times since it was instituted and 10 times over the past decade. On all fronts, scant resistance has been levied against the finacialization of the U.S. government.

Moreover, gold’s recent rise over $1,600 indicates that markets are (quite rationally) not predicting a default; they instead expect Washington to continue to spin off debt-to-service-debt to finance its some $15 trillion outstanding and some $70-100 trillion in liabilities [PDF], many of which, like Social Security, are currently unfunded.

Paradoxically, if Washington were to default (which, again, it won’t), the immediate result would be a strengthening of the dollar. If Washington cancelled its debts and entitlement payments, there would be, quite literally, less money now and promised in future. People would scramble for the dollars left over, and prices of most everything would fall. If the Republicans were truly concerned about the value of the dollar (which they say they are), they would be demanding not only a hard debt ceiling but a massive reneging on the innumerable future obligations. Being that the latter would necessitate informing their constituents that they should prepare for a diminished lifestyle, they won’t do anything of the kind.   

3) “The Republicans are risking financial armageddon due to their libertarian, anti-government ideology.”

It’s hard to take this one seriously.

Without question, this standoff wouldn’t be happening were it not for the Republican leadership’s desire to throw the Tea Party a bone. (Otherwise, the ceiling would have been raised with little fanfare, as it was in the past.)  That said, most proposed spending cuts, which were said to “match” hikes in the debt ceiling, are entirely symbolic.

As Gary North notes, “ . . . over the next decade” is tacked on at the end of any promised reduction. Thus, John Boehner’s big number of $4 trillion in unspecified cuts (which has been floated, then retracted, then floated again) becomes a relatively small number of $400 billion each fiscal year—which would still result in Washington running deficits of a trillion per (!).     

4) “If the debt ceiling isn’t raised, Grandma won’t get her Social Security check.”

Once again, no.

It is quite ironic that during the Obamacare “town halls” two summers ago, Democrats ridiculed the idea that Obama would take away Grandma’s Medicare payments (or even “pull the plug”). Now, Obama is quite explicitly threatening seniors with their lives: “There may not be the money in the coffers” to send out August-3 Social Security checks, Obama informed 60 Minutes’s geriatric audience.

And some might think that Obama’s hands are tied in this situation, since, according to government accounts, Social Security went bankrupt last year (that is, its “fund” issued more than it took in.)      

But Obama’s threat rests on the widespread illusion that the federal government’s finances amount to “coffers” filled with money—that is, some kind of large, though limited, source of wealth: eg, a bank account or gold hoard or dark basement filled with stacks of hundreds.

But this is not how modern government finances work. The Social Security “trust fund,” for example, is not a fund at all but a mass of liabilities. When it was cash-flow positive for 75 years, its revenues were traded for Treasury Bond IOUs and used for other governmental expenses: war, contracts, salaries, etc. Social Security is now cash-flow negative and requires debt to operate. There is all but no chance that Boehner and Cantor, or any politician, would allow themselves to be the one to shut off the credit line necessary for Grandma’s Social Security check to go out.  Obama certainly knows this, which is why he’ll make such threats, knowing his opponents will cave.

But let’s stop here with the minutia. It’s easy to get lost in the political maneuvering and posturing and lose sight of the big picture. Overall, there are two elemental components of Washington debt-financed everything that are of paramount importance; both of which are so simple, and so nefarious, they boggle the mind:

1) There is practically no limit to the amount of debt Washington can issue.

2) Washington never plans to actually pay off its debt (ie, clear its balance); it will instead service its debt with more debt ad infinitum.   

The first of these is directly relevant to Washington’s innumerable and unfunded promises and liabilities, which again, it will have no problem fulfilling in nominal terms.

Forget about paying Grandma two grand a month. If it so desired, Washington could request that the Fed purchase 30 trillion in new bonds, have the treasury print this up in thousand-dollar bills, and mail each citizen 100 grand in cash. A “stimulus package” of this kind is entirely feasible in a fiat-money system.

Of course, something like this would likely result in a Weimar/Zimbabwe hyperinflation, and hilariously high prices for everyday goods. And Washington is well aware of this, which is why a scheme of this kind would only be tried as an act of desperation.

And it’s also unnecessary, for in avoiding brazen money printing—and instead maintaining the dollar as the premiere vehicle of worldwide indebtedness—Washington has gotten away with inflations that are equally, if not more, outrageous than what I just described. Currently, the total dollar-denominated debt (including sovereign debt, consumer and student loans, mortgages, etc.) amounts to some $50 trillion (350 percent of GDP). And as mentioned above, the entitlement promises actually dwarf this gargantuan number.

Actually clearing America’s balance sheet would require most all of the production and savings of the entire world for years to come. But again, Washington won’t ever truly pay it off. Its solution is more insidious.   

Dick Cheney’s infamous 2002 statement that “deficits don’t matter” wasn’t a mere confession of irresponsibility. He was accurately describing an arrangement in which America’s overseas empire, its citizens lifestyles and entitlement programs could be expanded—practically endlessly—through debt—debt serviced by the issuance of more debt.

Normal governments have to bring their expenditures in line with tax revenues. The exceptional nation doesn’t have to bother. That Washington collects revenues at all seems only to be a means of assuring its creditors that it has enough cash flow to make interest payments.  

Conservatives and Republicans might want to blame this all on “big government,” but the reality is that for decades, all components of the Establishment have benefited from the arrangement: it is the way—indeed, the only way—Washington can finance wars, entitlements, student loans, mutliculturalism, and mortgages all at once.

The arrangement’s fatal flaw is not so much that it’s unfair but that it’s based on a paradigm of infinite debt growth in an intrinsically limited world. (And it’s only a matter of time before a rival country has the guts enough to offer a replacement for the dollar or at least stop indefinitely footing Washington’s bill.)

America’s debt empire, too, shall pass. And when it does collapse, the consequences will be more spectacular and catastrophic than anything prophesied in the current debt-ceiling debate.      

The Coming Gentrification Wars

After the crime wave of the ‘70s and ‘80s began to wane, homosexual men have functioned as the stormtroopers of urban ethnic cleansing. Lacking children, gays aren't bothered by “bad schools,” and they have—in many ways, bravely—moved into dilapidated, crime-ridden areas to renovate apartments, install delightful coffee shops and pet stores, and generally raise property values. In but a few years, erstwhile “no-go zones”  became safe for breeders. Whatever social conservatives might think about them, American gays have been taking back our cities, block by block.  

And they are now running up right up against Flash Mobs and a renewed and spectacular Black urban unruliness.

Ben Bernanke: The Avuncular Master of the Universe

Ben Bernanke is an odd member of our Power Elite, in that he seems to innocently believe in all the lies of postmodern financialism. It's probably wrong to imagine any malign intention in the heart of this gray-bearded professor.  In the following clip, Ben demands a pat on the back for charging interest on money he created out of thin air and on a whim. (The Fed is the U.S. government's "profit center," he informs us, as if he's hoping to get a raise from his supervisor.) The fact that every state of every kind has held gold reserves for the past six millennia is, in Bernanke's mind, a quaint "tradition," not too different from the White House Christmas tree.

It is the True Believer in an ideology that will push his ideology towards its ultimate implication--and thus bring about its destruction.

We should be thankful for Ben Bernanke.

Amish group travels to Israel to ask forgiveness of Jew

When most of the news we hear involves killing, lies and denial, here's news story that stands out as unique: Members of the Amish community from the United States and Switzerland paid a visit to the Western Wall in Jerusalem for the express purpose of asking the Jewish people’s forgiveness for their group’s silence during the Nazi extermination of Jews in the Holocaust.

Their action is noteworthy not just because they stood up and took responsibility for their actions, asking for forgiveness for something that happened long ago, but also because they travelled all the way to Israel to make their request. The Amish, a sect of the Mennonite Church that largely rejects modern technology, do not normally use contemporary forms of transportation, such as airplanes and cars, necessary to make the journey to the Holy Land. When they do use such forms of transportation, they must employ a driver. At home in their own communities, the Amish typically use a horse and buggy for transportation.

According to an article written by Johan Mandel and published in The Jerusalem Post on November 28, an announcement issued by the office of Western Wall Rabbi Shmuel Rabinovitch, with whom the group met, “the Amish delegates saw great importance in coming to Israel and expressing their contrition, as well as declaring their unreserved support of the Jewish people and the State of Israel.” The delegation members stressed that they weren’t seeking any kind of gesture from the Jewish people. They also were not seeking to proselytize. They simply wanted to support Israel because they had not done so in the past.

Thus, they got in cars and planes and made the journey to Israel despite the fact that this meant doing something that goes against their basic beliefs. They had to embrace modern technology long enough to get them to Israel and then back to their own communities. They also had to be willing to admit they as a people, as a community, had done something wrong; this makes most people pretty uncomfortable in general.

The group presented Rabinovitch with various tokens at a ceremony, including a parchment with a request for forgiveness in the name of the entire Amish community. This document included a commitment that from now on the community “would loudly voice its support of the Jewish people, especially in the wake of the expressions of hatred by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his extensions,” reported The Jerusalem Post.

How many of us are willing to move outside our comfort zone to ask for forgiveness or to support another group we feel is being persecuted in some way? Unfortunately not many. The Amish should be commended for taking a trip that requires them to do just that—to employ means outside their comfort  zone, to ask forgiveness, thereby admitting a wrong, and to support an oppressed group for no other reason than that they feel it is the right thing to do. That truly makes them a righteous people. In Judaism, we call one such person a tzaddik—a righteous person. A community of righteous people are called tzaddikim, righteous ones. The Amish have earned that title.

Will "The Diversity Depression" Go Mainstream?

The alternative Right was way out in front spotting "The Diversity Depression"--that is, the role that affirmative-action lending played in the housing bubble and resulting financial crisis. (The term was coined at Takimag in June, 2008, and developed mostly at VDARE). The idea has since been integrated into a number of post-crash books. Even Walter Russell Mead, the establishmentarian's establishmentarian, has caught on. And he suggests that the GOP run on "The Diversity Depression" in 2012 as a proxy for the need to end the evils of affirmative action and the Nanny State. (That is, Mead advises Republicans to dedicate themselves to matters that might improve the lives of the White people who vote for them. Fancy that?)  

Democrats, watch out.

The Republican Party and especially its Tea Party wing have just acquired a new weapon of mass destruction — and it has nothing to do with any of Congressman Wiener’s rogue body parts.  If they deploy this weapon effectively in the next election cycle — a big if — then they have the biggest opportunity to move the country rightward since Ronald Reagan took the oath of office back in 1981.

The Tea Party WMD stockpile is currently stored in book form:  Reckless Endangerment: How Outsized Ambition, Greed, and Corruption Led to Economic Armageddon. By Gretchen Morgenson, one of America’s best business journalists who is currently at The New York Times, and noted financial analyst Joshua Rosner, Reckless Endangerment gives the best available account of how the growing chaos in the mortgage and personal finance markets and the rampant bundling of dubious loans into exotically toxic securities plunged the world, and millions of American families, into the gravest financial crisis since World War Two. It is gripping reading as well, and its explanations are clear enough that readers without any background in finance will have no trouble following the plot.  The villains?  An unholy alliance between Wall Street, the Democratic establishment, community organizing groups like ACORN and La Raza, and politicians like Barney Frank, Nancy Pelosi and Henry Cisneros.  (Frank got a cushy job for a lover, Pelosi got a job and layoff protection for a son, Cisneros apparently got a license to mint money bilking Mexican-Americans of their life savings in cheesy housing developments.)

If the GOP can make this narrative mainstream, and put this picture into the heads of voters nationwide, the Democrats are toast.  The party will have to reinvent itself (or as often happens in American politics, be rescued by equally stupid Republican missteps) before it can flourish.

If Morgenstern and Rosner are to be believed, the American dream didn’t die of old age; it was murdered and most of the fingerprints on the corpse come from Democratic insiders.  Democratic power brokers stoked the housing bubble and turned a blind eye to the increasingly rampant corruption and incompetence at Fannie Mae and the associated predatory lenders who sheltered under its umbrella; core Democratic ideas may well be at fault.

This is catnip to Republicans, arsenic to Dems.  If Morgenson and Rosner are right, there is someone the American people can blame for our current economic woes and it is exactly the cast of characters that a lot of Americans love to hate.  Big government, affirmative action and influence peddling among Democratic insiders came within inches of smashing the US economy.

Do you think they might do it?  

Nah, better to make noises about invading more Middle Eastern countries!

The Color of Crime Rears Its Head

As the numbers go, America is getting safer. Over the past 50 years, violent crime rates have consistently adhered to a sinusoidal wave, peaking in the early '90s and steadily declining for 20 years.

A number of political and economic causes have been put forth to explain this trend, including renewed vigilance regarding non-violent offenses, readily available abortions for the underclass, and the dot.com and housing booms. Each one of these carries a kernel of truth. But the uninspiring reality is that most credit should go to the Prison Industrial Complex.

The United States has the highest incarceration rate in the world, easily outpacing bogeyman “totalitarian” governments like China and Russia. And the system’s effectiveness isn't simply a matter of punishment. The government has effectively locked violent criminals away from society in a parallel, government-run universe and kept them there.   

Discussing crime in this way is, needless to say, taboo. Major critiques of the Prison Industrial Complex have been relegated to academic leftists and have played no role in major elections;  White liberals might seem well disposed to a social crusade against incarceration...but at the end of the day, they, too, want to be safe.

Even more taboo is discussing the racial elements of this matter, what The New Century Foundation has called “

The Color of Crime

” and which it has documented for the past 15 years. As its report states, 

Blacks are seven times more likely than people of other races to commit murder, and eight times more likely to commit robbery.

When blacks commit crimes of violence, they are nearly three times more likely than non-blacks to use a gun, and more than twice as likely to use a knife.

As a result of realities like these, federal and state governments have imprisoned some five percent of the Black population.  It’s a rather brutal solution to what is ultimately a demographic problem, and it has involved massive and untold economic costs to maintain such an enormous penal system.

Of late, there’s reason to believe that as America enters a prolonged economic depression, this arrangement--what amounts to a social contract of sorts--is breaking down.

Spontaneously organized through Twitter and social networks and documented and promoted through YouTube, violent crimes for fun and profit have become more visibly brazen, sadistic, racially motivated, and sometimes quasi-ideological/political: “Beat Whitey Night” took place at an Iowa state fair last summer...a White transvestite was brutalized to the point of experiencing a seizure in a McDonalds, as patrons looked on without offering assistance...roaming bands of thugs have gone on rampages throughout Chicago...and more. (The blogger “Unamusement Park” has documented the phenomenon here and here.)

The most recent version of the “American Dream”--in which prosperity and democracy would help the nation transcend its older racial hierarchies and hostilities--is evaporating before our eyes.

All of this is a preface to a recent incident involving radio-host Neil Boortz, which I believe is quite significant--a mainstream and quite popular conservative commentator laid down the truth about The Color of Crime.

First, Boortz said this on his daily program last Friday:

And you want to know why I moved out of Atlanta and only spend a couple of weeks a year in this town? That's one of the reasons. Carjackings, violence, people getting shot. It's ridiculous. This city harbors an urban culture of violence. [...]

This town is starting to look like a garbage heap. And we got too damn many urban thugs, yo, ruining the quality of life for everybody. And I'll tell you what it's gonna take. You people, you are - you need to have a gun. You need to have training. You need to know how to use that gun. You need to get a permit to carry that gun. And you do in fact need to carry that gun and we need to see some dead thugs littering the landscape in Atlanta. We need to see the next guy that tries to carjack you shot dead right where he stands. We need more dead thugs in this city. And let their -- let their mommas -- let their mommas say, "He was a good boy. He just fell in with the good crowd." And then lock her ass up.

This, of course, inspired much Righteous Liberal Outrage.

What’s most interesting is that Boortz refused to back down.  Though he recited the typical claptrap about “it’s about culture, not skin color,” he also cited statistic that he most certainly gleaned from a reading The Color of Crime. Wrote Boortz:

Contact your local U.S. Government printing office, buy the reports and start crunching the numbers.  Or, if you wish, you can just read some of the data developed by people who have already done that work for you!

•  Blacks are seven times more likely than people of other races to commit murder, and eight times more likely to operate.

• When blacks commit crimes of violence, they are nearly 3 times more likely than non-blacks to use a gun, and more than twice as likely to use a knife.  Bear in mind that my comments last week were born of reports of two carjackings by young black males in the Atlanta area in which guns were used.

• If you start to delve even deeper into the statistics you will see that when you deal with the issue of interracial crime between blacks and whites you will find that blacks are the perpetrators 85% of the time while whites are responsible 15% of the time.

• The single best indicator of violent crime in an area is the percentage of the population that is black and Hispanic.

Racist statistics?  Come on … give me a break.

No, the statistics aren’t “racist,” in the sense of being bigoted and biased; they do, however, reveal America’s demographic reality. A reality the mainstream media is increasingly unable to deny.

Is Immigration Reform Still Relevant?

The "America" immigration restrictionists were defending no longer exists.

For the first time, minorities make up a majority of babies in the U.S., part of a sweeping race change and growing age divide between mostly white, older Americans and predominantly minority youths that could reshape government policies.

Preliminary census estimates also show the share of African-American households headed by women - made up of mostly single mothers - now exceeds African-American households with married couples, a sign of declining U.S. marriages overall but also continuing challenges for black youths without involved fathers.

The findings, based on the latest government data, offer a preview of final 2010 census results being released this summer that provide detailed breakdowns by age, race and householder relationships such as same-sex couples.

Demographers say the numbers provide the clearest confirmation yet of a changing social order, one in which racial and ethnic minorities will become the U.S. majority by midcentury.

"We're moving toward an acknowledgment that we're living in a different world than the 1950s, where married or two-parent heterosexual couples are now no longer the norm for a lot of kids, especially kids of color," said Laura Speer, coordinator of the Kids Count project for the Baltimore-based Annie E. Casey Foundation.

In his just released latest letter (below) Bill Gross piggybacks on this observation in what is one of the most scathing notes blasting the traditional of higher education, and in essence claiming that college, as means of perpetuating a broken employment status quo whcih redirect labor to a now-expiring Wall Street labor model, is now worthless: "The past several decades have witnessed an erosion of our manufacturing base in exchange for a reliance on wealth creation via financial assets. Now, as that road approaches a dead-end cul-de-sac via interest rates that can go no lower, we are left untrained, underinvested and overindebted relative to our global competitors. The precipitating cause of our structural employment break is both internal neglect and external competition. Blame us. Blame them. There’s plenty of blame to go around." And why college graduates have only a 6 digit loan to look forward to: "American citizens and its universities have experienced an ivy-laden ivory tower for the past half century. Students, however, can no longer assume that a four year degree will be the golden ticket to a good job in a global economy that cares little for their social networking skills and more about what their labor is worth on the global marketplace." And some very bad news for the communists in the White House and the chimpanzees in the San Francisco Fed who continue to believe that unemployment is anything but structural: "The “golden” days are over, and it’s time our school and jobs “daze” comes to an end to be replaced by programs that do more than mimic failed establishment policies favoring Wall as opposed to Main Street."

So, Anthony Weiner has resigned… I usually don’t find much use in discussing scandals like this, but I’ve noted that Pat Buchanan has suggested that a blow was struck for the “old morality” by the public’s expressed disgust and the political class’s unanimous condemnation of the Congressman:

The national reaction to Anthony Weiner, the clamor that he get out of the House now, to which the Democratic Party is yielding, testifies to the enduring moral health of the nation.

The culture war is not yet wholly lost.

The truly remarkable thing that the Weiner episode—along with countless other leaked photos and accounts of DC sexual escapades—reveals is the large percentage of lying, sociopathic perverts who are currently governing the country. This strikes me as far more significant than the fact that Debbie Wasserman Schultz washed her hands of a congressman who was no longer useful.

In the ‘90s, Buchanan and the Religious Right defined the “culture war” as one primarily over morality (or, more accurately, over moral hot-button issues that could be voted on). Yet one wonders whether this is the battlefield on which the real war was and still is being fought. First-generation Latino immigrants are overwhelmingly Catholic, and according to a Pew study, 75 percent of them self-identify as “Pro-Life.” One can thus easily imagine a United States that is “virtuous” (as the conservative movement (mis-)defines the word) as well as poor, non-Western, and brown.

To be more blunt, if America’s historic majority is to be dispossessed on this continent, then who really cares if the public gets grossed out by a Cognressman’s Twitter feed?

What interests me more than these questions is this notion—a very modern, democratic one—that political leaders must be “representatives” of the people. An indiscretion on the rep’s part is deemed a betrayal of the people (who are presumably good) as well as his democratic “position of honor.”

This morality is new.

Pat, one would assume, honors Emperor Constantine, who commissioned the Council of Nicaea, canonized the Bible, and laid the foundation stone for the conversion of the European peoples to Christianity. Constantine also executed his son and wife, the latter by means of boiling her to death in her own bathtub, for reasons that seem to have much more to do with the emperor’s jealously and rage than any actual crimes.

I don’t bring this up to scandalize Constantine. One could come up with numerous other anecdotes involving rank immortality among truly great men. Henry VIII is, rightfully, an English hero, yet who could defend his marital shenanigans?

In turn, my opinion of Martin Luther King Jr. would not change in the slightest were I to discover that he were actually a loving family man (and not a sexual hyena.)

(On this matter, I do hope that the FBI’s “MLK tapes” will one day be released. The sainted civil rights leader’s penchant for White prostitutes would reveal that, much like the other sociopaths who flourish in democracies, he had no great love for his own people.)

At any rate, the true “old morality” judged political leaders on whether or not their use of state power protected and advanced their race and civilization. Salus populi lex suprema—The salvation of the people is the supreme law.

Put more crudely, if a politician did what needs to be done—most importantly, expel the Third World element from this continent—then I wouldn’t care if he were boffing goats on the White House lawn.

The fictional "Gay Girl in Damascus," who, it turns out, was actually a married White man in Scotland, is a capstone of sorts on what I've called the Narcissism Revolution—that is, the Left-liberal continuation of George W. Bush's "freedom agenda" by other means (or more specifically, by means of the gay crap Left-liberals are into: Twitter, Muslim feminists, and personal liberation, etc.) 

The "Gay Girl"'s novelistic blogging must have been like catnip to Andrew Sullivan: "Borders mean nothing...when you have wings."

A Facebook poster was one of many online campaigns triggered by reports that a Syrian blogger called Gay Girl in Damascus had been kidnapped.

Stephen Jay Gould mismeasured skulls in racial records dispute

The late scientific icon, Stephen Jay Gould, botched and perhaps faked his critique of a racist 19th-Century scientist's skull collection, suggests a second look at his efforts.

In a 1978 Science paper, Gould (1941 - 2002) , reported that the Samuel George Morton (1799-1851), "a prominent Philadelphia physician," had mis-measured the cranial capacities of his 1,000-skull "American Golgotha" collection gathered from around the world, to suit his racist beliefs. The finding led to one of Gould's best-known books, The Mismeasure of Man, a critique of scientific racism.

"Morton is now viewed as a canonical example of scientific misconduct. But did Morton really fudge his data?," asks a PLoS Biology study led by anthropologist Jason Lewis of Stanford University. "Are studies of human variation inevitably biased, as per Gould, or are objective accounts attainable, as Morton attempted?"

So, the study team remeasured the skulls collected by Morton, now owned largely by the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology in Philadelphia.

Overall, they find, Morton did make mistakes in measuring skull capacity (he first stuffed them with seeds, and later lead shot to measure their brain size). But the mistakes were random. The random mistakes didn't favor any racial theory of larger brain sizes for white people over others.

"Given how long Gould's work has been criticized in this arena, I'm a little surprised that it took this long for the work to be done to write this article," says the University of Texas's David Prindle, author of Stephen Jay Gould and the Politics of Evolution. "People who dislike Gould's work will likely go on disliking him even more after this article. People who are fans of his writing will likely go on supporting his views."

Today, researchers know that larger average skull size is largely a function of cold weather:

In reevaluating Morton and Gould, we do not dispute that racist views were unfortunately common in 19th-century science or that bias has inappropriately influenced research in some cases. Furthermore, studies have demonstrated that modern human variation is generally continuous, rather than discrete or ''racial,'' and that most variation in modern humans is within, rather than between, populations. In particular, cranial capacity variation in human populations appears to be largely a function of climate, so, for example, the full range of average capacities is seen in Native American groups, as they historically occupied the full range of latitudes, say the study authors.

Yes! Head size is correlated with cold weather...but then so is IQ.

Morton neither manipulated his skull samples, unfairly selected which data to report, skewed results by gender, or ignored his mistakes to favor racist interpretations of his skulls, the PLoS Biology study authors conclude -- all charges made by Gould against the long-dead physician.

What's more, the researchers found Gould made some mistakes in his re-analysis of Morton. "Our analysis of Gould's claims reveals that most of Gould's criticisms are poorly supported or falsified," they conclude:

Samuel George Morton, in the hands of Stephen Jay Gould, has served for 30 years as a textbook example of scientific misconduct. The Morton case was used by Gould as the main support for his contention that ''unconscious or dimly perceived finagling is probably endemic in science, since scientists are human beings rooted in cultural contexts, not automatons directed toward external truth''. This view has since achieved substantial popularity in ''science studies''. But our results falsify Gould's hypothesis that Morton manipulated his data to conform with his a priori views. The data on cranial capacity gathered by Morton are generally reliable, and he reported them fully. Overall, we find that Morton's initial reputation as the objectivist of his era was well-deserved.

Franz Boas – Liberal Icon, Scientific Fraud

Two of the major superstitions of our time are the notion that man is merely a blank slate whose behavior is merely the product of the social environment and its sister, that race doesn't exist. Yet one by one, the pseudo-scientific sources of these myths are being discredited by serious scientists, and last week, one of the biggest sources of all took a nose dive.

Franz Boas, often called the grandfather of modern anthropology and a pioneer pusher of the idea that race is not a very meaningful concept, merely a "social construct" not found in nature, probably ranks with Karl Marx and Sigmund Freud as one of the most influential thinkers of the modern age. As a Columbia professor from 1899 to 1942, he virtually created modern anthropology, and the students he trained—among them, Margaret Mead and some of the most famous names in the field—dominated the discipline until only a few years ago.

One of Boas' favorite targets was so-called "scientific racism," and much of his own writing was intended to combat what he saw—sometimes rightly—as unscientific or simply false thinking about race.

But it now turns out that Boas himself was guilty of no small degree of unscientific blunder—and maybe even fraud.

In 1912, Boas published what became a classic study that claimed to show that the skull shapes ("cranial forms") of the descendants of European immigrants to the United States altered from those of the original immigrants. Boas offered no explanation for why the changes took place, but if they were real, his finding pretty much wiped out the idea that different racial and ethnic types differ in fixed physical characteristics.

"did much to establish the notion in human genetics that what are transmitted in the germ plasm are not fixed characters but potentialities ... dependent upon the environment for the particular form they will assume. The 'nature-nurture' controversy was largely obviated by this alternative."

In political terms, if human beings have few or no "fixed characters" and are shaped by the social environment, then what we know as modern liberalism is in business. So is communism, which also assumes that human beings can be transformed by manipulating the social environment.

It's no accident that Boas was a lifelong sympathizer of Marxism.

Unfortunately, for the social and human engineers, the study has now been shown to be invalid. Last week in the New York Times Science section, science reporter Nicholas Wade reported on an article in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences by anthropologists Corey Sparks and Richard L. Jantz that took another look at Boas's study and methods. The effects of the new environment on the skulls of the immigrants' descendants, they found, are "insignificant," and the difference between the European and American born children were "negligible in comparison to the differentiation betweenethnic groups." Moreover, as Dr. Jantz told the Times, Boas

"was intent on showing that the scientific racism of the day had no basis, but he did have to shade his data some to make it come out that way."

In other words, Boas decided what his conclusions would be before he finished the research and then "shaded"—i.e., cheated on—the data to make them support the conclusion he wanted.

This is not science; it's fraud -- and modern liberalism is founded on it.

America's Negro Spring

Liberals and neocons are inclined to romanticize civil unrest by non-Whites when they can gaze at it on cable news from the safety of their living rooms. Hence, the "Arab Spring." When American Blacks act up, on the other hand, the Beltway crowd prefers not to talk about it. At most, they'll promise to address the matter with new social legislation. They certainly never wax hopeful about violent disturbances that threaten their status quo. 

In a gutsy move, Drudge has detailed this nation-wide social phenomenon, which includes a hilarious story about gay SWPLs in Miami pushing back against the violenent antics attendant to "Urban Weekend." (We are assured that "it's not about race"...)

It's worth revisiting my piece from last summer on the "flash mob" phenomenon, "Race Riots 2.0." These latest outrages on the beach appear to be the canary in the coal mine of a major social and economic breakdown. 

America's Hellholes

Forget Harold Camping, for many of America's cities, the apocalypse has already occurred.

From Economic Collapse:

All over the mid-Atlantic, all along the Gulf coast, all throughout the "rust belt" and all over the entire state of California cities that once had incredibly vibrant economies are being turned into rotting, post-industrial hellholes. In many U.S. cities, the "real" rate of unemployment is over 30 percent. There are some communities that will start depressing you almost the moment that you drive into them. It is almost as if all of the hope has been sucked right out of those communities.  If you live in one of those American hellholes you know what I am talking about.  Sadly, it is not just a few cities that are becoming hellholes.  This is happening in the east, in the west, in the north and in the south.  America is literally being transformed right in front of our eyes.

If you still live in an area of the United States that is prosperous, do not mock the cities that you are about to read about.  The cold, hard reality of the matter is that economic decline and economic despair are spreading rapidly and they will come to your area soon enough.  Right now we are still talking about "American hellholes", but if the long-term economic trends that are destroying this nation are not turned around eventually we will just be talking about one gigantic "American hellhole".  In the end, no area of the country will completely escape the economic hell that is coming.

Let's take a closer look at what is currently happening in some of the worst areas of the country....

Detroit, Michigan

In the city of Detroit today, there are over 33,000 abandoned houses, 70 schools are being permanently closed down, the mayor wants to bulldoze one-fourth of the city and you can literally buy a house for one dollar in the worst areas.

During the boom days of the 1950s, Detroit was a teeming metropolis of approximately 2 million people, but today the current population is less than half that.  The city of Detroit, once a shining example of middle class America, is now a rotting cesspool of economic decline and it actually saw its population decline by 25 percent during the decade that recently ended.  According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Detroit lost a resident every 22 minutes between the years of 2000 and 2010.

So why are people leaving Detroit so rapidly?

There simply are no jobs.

At the height of the economic downturn, the mayor of Detroit admitted that while the "official" unemployment rate in Detroit was about 27 percent, the "real" unemployment rate in his city was actually somewhere around 50 percent.

Since there are not enough jobs, that also means that not enough tax money is coming in.  Detroit is essentially insolvent at this point.

Detroit officials are trying to implement some austerity measures in a desperate attempt to get city finances under control.

For example, the state of Michigan recently granted approval to a plan that would shut down nearly half of the public schools in Detroit.  Under the plan, 70 schools will be closed and 72 will continue operating.

It has been estimated that the remaining public schools will have class sizes of up to 60 students.

Detroit Mayor Dave Bing also wants to cut off 20 percent of the entire city from police and trash services in order to save money.

Essentially that would mean abandoning 20 percent of the city of Detroit to the gangs and to the homeless.

The mayor of Detroit has also discussed a plan in which authorities would bulldoze one-fourth of the city in order to save money on services.

So with all of this going on, is Detroit a pleasant place to live at this point?

No way.

Today, Detroit is considered to be the third most violent city in the United States.

In fact, crime has gotten so bad and the citizens are so frustrated by the lack of police assistance that they have resorted to forming their own organizations to fight back.  One group, known as "Detroit 300", was formed after a 90-year-old woman on Detroit's northwest side was brutally raped in August.

If you want to see what the future of America looks like, just take a few hours and go driving through Detroit some time.  But please only do this during the day.  Do not do this at night.  Detroit is not a safe place anymore, and you cannot count on the police to help you in a timely manner.

Detroit was once one of the greatest cities in the world.

But today it is an absolute hellhole.

Camden, New Jersey

So is there any place in America that is worse than Detroit?

Well, many would nominate Camden, New Jersey.

Many years ago, Camden was actually thriving and prosperous.  But today the city of Camden is known as "the second most dangerous city in America".

In a recent article entitled "City of Ruins", Chris Hedges did an amazing job of documenting the horrific decline of Camden.  Hedges estimates that the real rate of unemployment in Camden is somewhere around 30 to 40 percent, and he makes it sound like nobody in their right mind would want to live there now....

Camden is where those discarded as human refuse are dumped, along with the physical refuse of postindustrial America. A sprawling sewage treatment plant on forty acres of riverfront land processes 58 million gallons of wastewater a day for Camden County. The stench of sewage lingers in the streets. There is a huge trash-burning plant that releases noxious clouds, a prison, a massive cement plant and mountains of scrap metal feeding into a giant shredder. The city is scarred with several thousand decaying abandoned row houses; the skeletal remains of windowless brick factories and gutted gas stations; overgrown vacant lots filled with garbage and old tires; neglected, weed-filled cemeteries; and boarded-up store fronts.

Gangs have stepped into the gaping void left by industry.  In Camden today, drugs and prostitution are two of the only viable businesses left - especially for those who cannot find employment anywhere else.  The following is how Hedges describes the current state of affairs....

There are perhaps a hundred open-air drug markets, most run by gangs like the Bloods, the Latin Kings, Los Nietos and MS-13. Knots of young men in black leather jackets and baggy sweatshirts sell weed and crack to clients, many of whom drive in from the suburbs. The drug trade is one of the city's few thriving businesses. A weapon, police say, is never more than a few feet away, usually stashed behind a trash can, in the grass or on a porch.

But before we all start judging Camden for being such a horrible place to live, it is important to realize that this is happening in communities from coast to coast.  All over the United States industries are leaving and deep social decay is setting in.

Even the criminals in Camden are struggling.  Things have gotten so bad in Camden, New Jersey that not even the drug dealers are spending their money anymore.

So where are the police?

Unfortunately, there is very little money for police.  Authorities in Camden recently decided to lay off half of the city police force.

So now the gangs and the drug dealers have more room to operate.

Sadly, this is not just happening in Camden.  It is happening all over New Jersey.

Of 315 municipalities the New Jersey State Police union recently surveyed, more than half indicated that they were planning to lay off police officers.

So why doesn't the state government step in and help out?

Well, the state of New Jersey is in such bad shape that they still are facing a $10 billion budget deficit for this year even after cutting a billion dollars from the education budget and laying off thousands of teachers.

New Jersey also has $46 billion in unfunded pension liabilities and $65 billion in unfunded health care liabilities.  Nobody is quite sure how New Jersey is even going to come close to meeting those obligations.

Meanwhile, cities like Camden are rotting a little bit more every single day.

New Orleans, Louisiana

New Orleans had a struggling economy even before Hurricane Katrina struck back in 2005.  But that event changed everything.  It is now almost 6 years later and virtually the entire region is still a disaster zone.

New Orleans permanently lost 29% of its population after Hurricane Katrina.  There are many areas of New Orleans that still look as if they have just been bombed.

21.5 percent of all houses in New Orleans, Louisiana are currently standing vacant.  Many of those homes will never be inhabited again.

What made things even worse for New Orleans (and for residents all along the Gulf coast) was the horrific BP oil spill last year.  The mainstream news does not talk about the oil spill much anymore, but those living in the area have to deal with the effects every single day.

Some of the industries in the Gulf region were really starting to recover from Hurricane Katrina but the BP oil spill put a stop to that.

Before the oil spill, Louisiana produced more fish and seafood than anywhere in the United States except for Alaska.  But now the seafood industry has been absolutely devastated.  It has been estimated that the cost of the BP oil spill to the fishing industry in Louisiana alone could top 3 billion dollars.

Some local shrimpers in the region are projecting that it will be about seven years before they can set to sea again.

New Orleans keeps trying to bounce back from all of these disasters, but times are tough down there.

Today, New Orleans is the 13th most violent city in America.  That is actually an improvement.  Before Katrina New Orleans had even more violent crime.

The truth is that other areas along the Gulf coast are doing a lot worse than New Orleans is doing.  A ton of big corporate money has flowed into New Orleans.  Officials are trying to clean up the city and make it a huge tourist destination once again.

But in the surrounding areas things are not looking so bright.  There are areas along the coasts of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and the panhandle of Florida that are some of the most depressing places in the nation.

It is almost as if there are hundreds of thousands of people that time forgot.  In some rural areas along the Gulf coast the poverty is absolutely mind blowing.  There are very few jobs and there is very little hope.  Meanwhile, large numbers of people in the region continue to get sick from the toxic dispersants used to clean up the oil spill.

Let us hope that we don't see another major disaster in the Gulf of Mexico any time soon.  As it is, it is going to take decades for that region to fully recover.  There are a lot of really good people that live down there, and they deserve our prayers.

Vallejo, California (And Virtually The Rest Of The State Of California)

Almost the entire state of California is an economic disaster zone. Austerity measures are being implemented in city after city as tax revenues have nosedived.

The following is an excerpt from a recent New York Times article that describes the brutal austerity that has been implemented in Vallejo, California....

Vallejo is still in bankruptcy. The police force has shrunk from 153 officers to 92. Calls for any but the most serious crimes go unanswered. Residents who complain about prostitutes or vandals are told to fill out a form. Three of the city’s firehouses were closed. Last summer, a fire ravaged a house in one of the city’s better neighborhoods; one of the firetrucks came from another town, 15 miles away. Is this America’s future?

Sadly, that is what the future of America is going to look like.  Public services are being slashed all over the nation due to budget crunches.

Unless there is a major jobs recovery, the situation in California is going to continue to degenerate.  The truth is that the state of California needs millions and millions of new jobs just to get back to "normal".  For example, near the end of last year it was reported that 24.3 percent of the residents of El Centro, California were unemployed.  Not only that, as of the end of last year the number of people unemployed in the state of California was approximately equivalent to the entire populations of Nevada, New Hampshire and Vermont combined.

Businesses are closing in California at an astounding pace.  At one point last year it was reported that in the area around Sacramento, California there was one closed business for every six that were still open.

As a result of all of this, home prices in many areas of California have completely fallen off a cliff.  For example, the average home in Merced, California has declined in value by 63 percent over the past four years.

California also had more foreclosure filings that any other U.S. state in 2010.  The 546,669 total foreclosure filings during the year means that over 4 percent of all the housing units in the state of California received a foreclosure filing at some point during 2010.

Sadly, things don't look like they are going to turn around in California any time soon.  Forbes recently compiled a list entitled "Cities Where The Economy May Get Worse".

Six of the top seven spots were held by cities in California.

California is becoming a very frightening place.  When you combine high unemployment with unchecked illegal immigration what you get is rampant poverty.

20 percent of the residents of Los Angeles County are now receiving public aid of one form or another.

In particular, the number of children that are considered to be in need of public assistance is truly scary.

Incredibly, 60 percent of all the students attending California public schools now qualify for free or reduced-price school lunches.

Poverty and illegal immigration have also caused a tremendous health care crisis in the state.  The hordes of illegal aliens taking advantage of "free" medical care at hospital emergency rooms have caused dozens of hospitals across the state of California to completely shut down.  As a result, the state of California now ranks dead last out of all 50 states in the number of emergency rooms per million people.

The bozos in Sacramento keep passing hundreds of new laws in an attempt to "fix" the state, but the truth is that for the poorest residents of the state all of those new laws don't make a shred of difference.

The following is how Victor Davis Hansen describes what he saw during his recent tour of the "forgotten areas of central California"....

Many of the rural trailer-house compounds I saw appear to the naked eye no different from what I have seen in the Third World . There is a Caribbean look to the junked cars, electric wires crisscrossing between various outbuildings, plastic tarps substituting for replacement shingles, lean-tos cobbled together as auxiliary housing, pit bulls unleashed, and geese, goats, and chickens roaming around the yards. The public hears about all sorts of tough California regulations that stymie business - rigid zoning laws, strict building codes, constant inspections - but apparently none of that applies out here.

Hansen also says that he observed that people in these areas are doing whatever they can to get by....

At crossroads, peddlers in a counter-California economy sell almost anything. Here is what I noticed at an intersection on the west side last week: shovels, rakes, hoes, gas pumps, lawnmowers, edgers, blowers, jackets, gloves, and caps. The merchandise was all new. I doubt whether in high-tax California sales taxes or income taxes were paid on any of these stop-and-go transactions.

In two supermarkets 50 miles apart, I was the only one in line who did not pay with a social-service plastic card (gone are the days when "food stamps" were embarrassing bulky coupons).

You know what they say - "as goes California, so goes the nation".

What is happening in California now is eventually going to come to your area.

Right now California is also having a huge problem with gangs.  Gang violence in America is getting totally out of control.  According to authorities, there are now over 1 million members of criminal gangs operating inside the country, and those gangs are responsible for up to 80% of the violent crimes committed in the U.S. each year.

But instead of ramping up to fight crime and fight illegal immigration, police forces all over California are being cut back.

For example, because of extreme budget cuts and police layoffs, Oakland, California Police Chief Anthony Batts has announced that there are a number of crimes that his department simply will no longer respond to due to a lack of resources.  The following is a partial list of the crimes that police officers in Oakland will no longer be responding to....

• theft
• embezzlement
• grand theft
• grand theft: dog
• identity theft
• false information to peace officer
• required to register as sex or arson offender
• dump waste or offensive matter
• loud music
• possess forged notes
• pass fictitious check
• obtain money by false voucher
• fraudulent use of access cards
• stolen license plate
• embezzlement by an employee
• extortion
• attempted extortion
• false personification of other
• injure telephone/power line
• interfere with power line
• unauthorized cable tv connection
• vandalism

Not that Oakland wasn't already a mess before all this, but now how long do you think it will be before total chaos and anarchy reigns on the streets of Oakland?

Today, Oakland is considered the 5th most violent city in the United States.

Will it soon become the most violent?

But Oakland is not the only major California city that is facing these kinds of issues.

Things have gotten so bad in Stockton, California that the police union put up a billboard with the following message: "Welcome to the 2nd most dangerous city in California. Stop laying off cops."

Already the police force in Stockton has been stripped down to almost nothing.

A while back, the Stockton Police Department dropped this bombshell....

"We absolutely do not have any narcotics officers, narcotics sergeants working any kind of investigative narcotics type cases at this point in time."

Do you think drug dealers will be flocking to Stockton after they hear that?

California was once the envy of the world.

Now it is becoming one gigantic hellhole.

A picture is worth a thousand words. The historical ones that that we have reveal that Detroit was a more civilized, cultured, and communal—as well technologically advanced—place in the first half of the century.

Without question, Detroit is suffering from the end of the great postwar credit expansion, and the sad de-industrialization of the United States.* But one simply can't avoid the racial realities of "America's hellholes." Not every place collapses in the same way.
